The celebrations have begun for ShortKut Nation. As of press time, the gap stands at an eye-popping 76.8 miles (343.4 to 266.2). The analysts agree that such a gap is, officially, "insurmountable" with only 5 days left in the GMMC. In fact, Team ShortKut is considering benching Shortcut and his sore calf for the remainder of the GMMC, which they can well afford to do.
So now the running world is preparing itself for a bold new format for June, dubbed the Great Mileage Smackdown (GMSD) in which a macabre round-robin system will be used.
Shocker has lived up to his nickname by announcing that he'll have no part of the GMSD since cycling will not be incorporated. Organizers are scrambling to begin negotiations with Shocker's agents to see if they can change his mind, but analysts are skeptical.
This will force the GMSD governing board to reluctantly label Shocker as an "unwilling participant" (not the first time for Shocker) by factoring in his June mileage despite the fact that he won't be engaged in the competition, which will provide yet another factor to be considered by Shortcut, Romance and K-Law as they begin to formulate their strategies for next month.
