If Opening Weekend of the GMMC is any indication, then Shortcut and Shocker may want to start warming up to the "GRR United" name as quickly as possible.
In an opening salvo that thundered clear across the town, Ghost Runner and Law Man combined for a stunning 46.7 miles of running in the first two days of competition. Their efforts included a 16.6-miler (LM), a pair of trail runs and...of course...a two-for (GR).
Meanwhile, a combination of overseas travel and an ambitious yard work/retail work schedule resulted in a notably muffled response from the Gladheatehers, as they scraped up just 13.1 miles.
So, within an eye's blink of the starter's pistol being fired, the Gladheatehers find themselves in a cavernous 33.6-mile hole with no "mercy rule" in the competition's thin rule book. And GRR United doesn't seem interested in letting their oppponents come up for air, with Law Man already logging 9.3 miles this morning.
Nonetheless, there are still 29 training days left in what is sure to be a hectic month of mileage.
