About the Author

2007_christmas_picture The author is a happily married father of three young boys living in a suburb of Hartford, Connecticut.  I have been married to Amy since 1997 and we have Cameron who is eight years old, Owen is five and Shane is just two.  Yes, "My Three Sons".  I love them all to death but boy they are a handful!  Especially the middle child.  What is it with middle children?  Anyway, we live in an 18th century federal colonial.  No, it's not haunted and yes, I will have a lifelong "to do" list.  To my own credit my handyman skills have (by necessity) improved approximately 2,000% since we bought the house.  The kids enjoy soccer and karate, and my wife keeps them quite busy on a daily basis.  My "labor of love" is coaching or assistant coaching the boys' soccer teams.

6a00d834fd7a0b53ef00e553d13749883_2As far as my law practice goes, I am a solo attorney in town and my practice has focused exclusively on elder law, estate planning and probate for the past 11 years.  I spent the first nine years of my practice at various small to mid-sized law firms.  Two years ago I held my breath, took the plunge and opened my own solo practice, mostly to create more flexibility in the daily schedule and spend more time with the family.  I'm wicked-busy just about every day, but I'm not going to complain about that one bit.  I'm also heavily involved with the local Chamber of Commerce, which keeps me very active in the local community...something I deeply appreciate.

Ah5kphoto_2 In the running department, I joined the cross country team in high school back in 1988 and I have not stopped running since.  It's the one thing in which I can legitimately claim that I have a decent amount of natural talent.  I really appreciate the convenience of running (especially with the busy schedule) and the fact that you can burn more fat and calories per minute than nearly any other activity.  It also offers me an opportunity for organized athletic competition for years and years to come.  At this point I have completed 26 marathons (best time of 2:44), including 10 Boston Marathons, as well as countless other races on the road, track and trails.  Yes, I'm clinically masochistic.  I've even tried the triathlon a few times (the swimming never seems to go too well).  I have also directed several road races, which is my way of "giving back" to the sport.  I am an early-morning runner, rising at 4:00am every day of the week.  I've discovered that no one wants me or needs me from 4am until about 6:30am which is when Owen tends to wake up, so that's when I work out since there are no other time options.

As far as this weblog goes, I consider it the high-tech version of my old notebook journal that I used to keep, only it looks a whole lot better and it has more bells and whistles!  I suppose it's also a personal scrapbook of sorts.  If anyone bothers to tune in, then that's great.  But mostly I'm using this as a vehicle for documenting my notable thoughts and insights, most of which come to me during my many hours on the roads.
