West Nile Next Door...Runners Beware

Some mosquitoes in  Manchester, Connecticut tested positive for West Nile virus yesterday.  This is the first sign of West Nile in Connecticut this year and the ninth year that the virus has been found in the state. 

The mosquitoes that tested positive have been held since June.

As runners, we tend to be outdoors more often than the general population, which means we need to take extra precautions since Manchester is right next door and your average mosquito has a hankering for perspiration. 

So take a minute to spray some bug repellent on before you head out the door for your run, although you may want to avoid applying it to your face so that it doesn't sweat down into your eyes.
